Everest Academy was blessed with a visit from Fr. John Belmonte, S.J., Ph.D. , Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Joliet, on Friday, May 20, the feast of St. Bernardine of Siena. Father John led the entire school in morning prayers. Father also took time to greet parents who were present for a meeting at school that morning.
He spent time getting to know our students better by visiting each of the classrooms. While in the classrooms he shared a bit about St. Bernardine and his great love for the Holy Name of Jesus. Fr John explained that St. Bernadine is associated with the Greek monogram for the name of Jesus, IHS, which the saint would devoutly display the monogram during his popular sermons.
Let’s keep Fr. John in our prayers, as he leads the schools of the Diocese of Joliet. We are grateful for his friendship.

Dear Everest Academy Parents,
We have the beautiful opportunity to extend an Everest Academy education to students from another country during the 2011-2012 school year. Everest Academy has been asked to host three students from Mexico who will be entering 8th grade in the fall -- two boys and one girl. The purpose of this effort is to allow the international students to receive an experience of life in the United States, as well as an education in a Legion of Christ school.
Are you interested in being a host family for one of these young people? The organization that coordinates these international learning opportunities offers host families a stipend for accommodating a student.
Please contact me at (630) 243-1995 or epratt@everestlemont.com if you have an interest in hosting an international student. Thank you.

Dear Everest Academy Parents,
· Are you interested in having your children take part in after-school child care for the 2011-2012 school year -- either after Pre-K dismissal at noon or after K-8 dismissal?
·
· Please contact the office if you would like us to note your interest and keep you informed of the possibilities.
·
· We will be able to offer this service only if enough families are interested -- so knowing of your interest is vital.
·
· Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Yours in Christ,
Elise Pratt

Supporting Everest Academy
Never Tasted So Good. . .
Thanks to a tremendous team effort -- spearheaded by Cindy O’Malley and her team: Catrina Ramirez, John O’Malley, Valerie Hogan, Jennifer Auw, and Marcia Sarmiento -- the one-day Everest Academy Go Roma Technology Fundraiser produced sales of $2698 and a total contribution of $539 toward the purchase of the school’s first Mimeo Teach Bar.
Everest Academy owes a special debt of gratitude to Mr. Bleka and Quantum Foods who supported this fundraiser by catering lunch for the company’s employees.
With a MimioTeach system, teachers can easily:
Turn any ordinary whiteboard into an interactive
whiteboard.
Encourage participation at the whiteboard.
Search the Mimio Gallery for ready-to-use lesson content.
Enliven lessons with audio, video, and Flash files.
Record video lessons to reuse whenever you want.
Record audio files using your computer’s microphone.
Import existing lessons from Microsoft PowerPoint and
Adobe Acrobat
Save your whiteboard notes and drawings to your computer.
Visit the Mimio website at http://www.mimio.dymo.com/ to learn even more about ways we can bring technology to the Everest Academy classrooms.
We look forward to future fundraising initiatives from the Technology Team -- and new technology for our classrooms.

Welcome to Fr Jon Budke!
Dear Friends and Families in Christ,
Please see below a letter from Fr. André LaSana announcing his move onto a new assignment with the Legionaries of Christ. Fr. André has been a main cofounder of White Pines/ Everest Academy. We will miss his direct leadership at Everest; however, we will continue to reap the benefits as he assists Fr. John Connor in guiding all the Legion of Christ’s apostolates in the region. Please join us in a special celebration of thanks to Fr. André on June 12th. This is not to say goodbye, as we will be seeing and still consulting with Fr. André on an ongoing basis. We will keep him and all his new responsibilities in prayer.
Although change brings with it some challenge in seeing those we care for move in new directions, there is also the comforting side of knowing God has a plan and trusting in this. We will be receiving another Legionary priest here at Everest Academy to lead us in our new phase of development. We are very pleased to welcome Fr. Jon Budke who will be here for us as president of the Board of Directors for Everest Academy and our Formation Director at the school. It is a blessing to have Fr. Budke join us as he has extensive experience in working in schools. We look forward to his presence and leadership on campus. We will be having our first all school Mass with Fr.
Budke soon and will notify you of the date. We look forward to seeing you there.
Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Everest Academy Families and Staff,
My warmest greetings! Hope all is well with you as the weather warms and spring blossoms. Some of you are aware that I have been in Chicago for nine years, which is quite a while for a member of a religious congregation – our assignments are usually for three years, renewable for another three. Just a short while ago, Fr Alvaro Corcuera, the Legion’s general director, notified me that I had received the mission of helping to develop our ministries in ten cities in the USA.
It takes a little time to digest such news… and happy as I am to help the Church from a new angle, so to speak, I am also saddened that I will not be as connected to Chicago and Everest as I was for all these years. Your friendship, work, support, joy, fidelity, love – so many virtues you have lived and shared with me, so many ways in which you have shaped my priesthood and my heart! So you have my sincerest gratitude, and an everliving place in my daily prayers.
The GOOD NEWS of course is that you will be receiving a NEW Legionary priest in Chicago to replace me at Everest Academy, and to fill the role of community superior. That wonderful new priest is Fr Jon Budke, who entered the Legion with me in the summer of 1989 in Connecticut, and who was ordained in Rome on January 2, 2001 – as was I. So we go back a ways! Fr Jon hails from Minnesota, so he will enjoy being back in the Midwest, having served a number of years in California, Washington, and Denver. I’m very happy for him to come to this great city!
I’m also very pleased that Fr Jon has had solid experience with schools, foremost with Clearwater Academy in Calgary – where our own Ms Gamache cut her teeth as founding principal. Clearwater, with 400 students, has consistently won top school honors in its province. Fr Jon is relaxed, cool, very practical, and a gifted handy-man too – you will be so pleased to have him serving you.
He arrived in Chicago this weekend and attended Everest Academy’s Monday morning assembly so that he
could begin to get to know students, parents, faculty, and staff.
I will eventually work out of Atlanta, but will continue to be based in Chicago all the way until December or
January. So I’ll keep a watchful eye on Everest and all of you, whom I truly love!
May the Lord richly bless you all; keep your Legionaries in your prayers too!
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Andre LaSana LC

Dear Families and Friends in Christ,
Happy month of the Blessed Virgin Mary! The month of May is the month which is especially dedicated to Our Blessed Mother as a tribute of faith and love to the Queen of Heaven. At Everest we were able to begin this beautiful dedication in our Crowning of Mary Mass and celebration which involved also honoring our fine Everest moms. We are so grateful to have our mother in heaven and the love of our mothers here on earth to guide and care for us.

Recently, we were able to enjoy the fine work of our children, their directors and parents in the production of Peter Pan. Our students are very talented and certainly shared those creative gifts with us that evening. A special thanks to all the mothers who were therefaithfully each week, as well as the Beecher, Spell and Stone families for their beautiful work on the set. We were overwhelmed that evening with your kind show of love -- giving our team a standing ovation! It is each of you who make possible all we do at Everest and are so deserving of praise and thanks.
We invite you to please join us in our year-end activities and to take time to get to know the new families who have been invited to take part as well. We currently have 10 new families joining us.
Let’s pray for each one. I cannot stress enough to all of us to please encourage more new families to join Everest. Do not forget our referral bonus plan. We hope each of our families will strive to encourage another family to join us.
Summer Camps are being organized. Please take time to consider having your child take part in the camps offered right here at Everest Academy. They are filling up -- do not miss out.
Have a blessed week. God bless you.
Sincerely in Christ,
Christine Gamache

Dear Parents,
Summer brings along with it many wonderful things: sunny days, swimming pools, sunscreen, beach balls, ice cream, family vacation …and of course, summer camps!!
Summer camps are a wonderful opportunity for children to be outdoors, learn new skills, adapt to a new environment away from home, and have fun with old and new friends.
In the Challenge Summer Camp, your daughter will have the added advantage of doing all this in a Catholic environment. Your daughter will learn that having fun and being with Jesus go together, since Jesus is her Best Friend who is always with her.
We will have the Blessed Eucharist on site, daily Mass, Confession available, mentoring and fun dynamic talks on being a true friend at home and school.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of your daughters there!
Please see the attached flyer for more details. Remember to register by June 1st!
God bless you! You are in my prayers!

On Wednesday, May 11th Everest Academy’s gym was turned into an amazon inhabited by exotic animals. Everest students watched in amazement as "Lil’ Critters" brought in and presented to them the animals.
Some of the exotic animals included a hedgehog, a parakeet, a tarantula, and snakes. The students were amazed that people were actually handling these animals so calmly. These little critters were interesting! The day was definitely a great success and was a great opportunity for our children to have some fun while continuing to learn and broaden their horizons.
Students were allowed to touch and pet some of the unusual creatures and ask questions about them. This was a wonderful day for students from PreK-3 to second grade.

He Is Risen, Alleluia!
And the angel answered and said unto the women, “Fear not for I know that you seek Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; for he is Risen, as he said. Come and see the place where the Lord lay.”
Matt 28:5-6
