Dear Everest Moms,
We’ve revised the Talent Show to be a Talent Show & Tell.
Please do not let this portion of the program prevent you from attending, as this will be a very special evening for our mothers and daughters (or aunts and nieces). Your “talent” may be a song, a poem, something that you’ve made together (e.g., clothing or craft), a favorite memory or family tradition. The idea is for us to share our gifts, talents and traditions as a larger Everest family!
We are looking forward to seeing you this Friday!
God bless,
Ms. Christine Gamache, Ms. Molly Maher, and Ms. Sonia Baldwin

September 6, 2011
Dear Parents,
Congratulations on completing the first week of school! It seemed to go very well overall. I was a true blessing to have all of our students back to school. The children appear to be getting back into their school life very well. We welcome our new and returning families to what we hope will be a wonderful and a life changing year at Everest Academy all for the best. Thank you for all your generous time in preparing your children for school. This is certainly manifesting itself in the classroom. We have seen many happy faces this past week and the enthusiasm of delving into learning something new as well as the joy of reuniting with friends and teachers.
I have to say that I am extremely grateful to our faculty and staff. They are a beautiful team and have all given their utmost to prepare for your children. Thank you for joining our Everest Team at the Parent Orientation evening and many thanks to our Parent Association for the fine refreshments and social.
Please let us know how your child is doing with regard to adjusting with homework. This will take some time as routines and familiarity is re-established with the subject areas. This will be more trying for new student. Parents please let your child’s teacher know how this is going and where we may offer any assistance in this or any other area.
We thank all the families that joined us for the Lemont Parade. Billy Zabilka, the Akroush and the Hamilton family were the parade leaders for us in the annual Lemont Keepataw parade. They did an excellent work of representing Everest Academy. Thank you!
I hope that you had a restful and enjoyable long weekend. Please review a few reminders as follows:
· Tues.: Board Meeting today
· Tues. & Wed.: Guests from the National Schools Office Scott Brown and Scott Madgey will be here this week.
· Wed. Curriculum Night: We look forward to seeing you. Please note that there will be no general presentation. Instead, you are invited to go directly to visit your child(ren)'s classroom. Teachers will be in their classrooms offering a repeating presentation every 20 minutes: 6:30-6:50; 6:55-7:15; 7:20-7:40. Teachers will be available for a final open Q&A session from 7:40-8:00pm.
· Thursday: September 8th Our Blessed mother’s Birthday. There will be a special treat offered for the students in celebration of Mary our Mother.
· After School Care begins today: We will be sending out further details on our program this week. If you have already signed up for this program, you should receive a note from our office regarding pick-up procedures, along with other practical details.
· Engrade: We will be providing more information as how to sign up and access your Childs grades through this program.
· Upcoming Dates: Mother Daughter Evening (Friday, Sept. 23) Progress Reports (September 30th)
· School Family Directory: If you have not yet done so, please send in your family photo either as photo (which will be returned) or or as digital file (jpeg filed preferred).
· Mom's Coffee: Moms' Coffee begins this Thursday at 8:00am. Please do not miss out. Drop off your children and then come in for a Back-to-School Brunch and learn more about this monthly moms' get-together. This is a great opportunity for you to meet other school moms.
· Volunteers: We could certainly use more help as to date we have fewer than 10 volunteers for the numerous areas we require assistance with. Everest Academy is as great as it can be primarily due to your very appreciated help, contributions of your time and talent. We look forward to seeing all of you involved here at Everest. Your children especially love to see mom or dad at school.
Thank you for all your support and prayers. Have a wonderful but short week.
God bless,
Sincerely in Christ,
Christine Gamache

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear Families and Friends,
Greetings on this first week of school. I hope all is going well at home with the routines and adjustments to the new school year. We believe that the students, faculty and staff are off to a wonderful start. Next week, the teachers will be available in their classrooms to review their program with you on Curriculum Night, Wednesday, September 7th 6:30-8:00pm.
Some of you are aware that this year we are blessed to have some new friends that will be working at Everest with our students. We welcome Ms Sonia Baldwin as Formation Instructor for the girls and Brother Dustin George, LC as Formation Instructor for the boys. Both will be fine additions to our team. We are also very blessed to have Ms. Carol Dodd as our Mission Corp volunteer this year. Carol is an alumna from The Highlands School, which is a sister school in Dallas, Texas. She arrived last week and is already assisting Ms. Maher with this month’s campaign on Friendship. A more complete bio of each is provided below.
With the introduction of our new team members we know this will mean seeing less of Br Juan Carlos Vazquez, LC and Ms. Teresa Maziarz. I say seeing less, rather than goodbye, as we are always bound to meet again because of their work with the schools and in serving the Church. Both Brother Juan and Ms. Teresa have new assignments. Brother Juan will be based in Ohio. You will be sure to see him if you visit Sacred Heart Apostolic School (which we invite all of you to visit at some time). This will be Brother Juan’s new Legionary home.
Ms. Teresa, who has always wanted to visit Ireland, is now in Ireland working as an Instructor of Formation at one of our sister schools, Woodlands Academy. She expects us to plan a pilgrimage to visit the Emerald Isle and looks forward to seeing us there. Woodlands Academy is located in County Wicklow, 25 km away from Dublin at the bottom of the Sugar Loaf Mountain. It is based in in Wingfield House, a restored Queen Anne-style mansion, that was built during the 1800s with exceptionally beautiful natural surroundings.
Thank you for your understanding and acceptance of the placement of our missionaries in serving Christ. They count on our prayers and support. Please join us in welcoming our new religious team members. I have included a more complete bio below.
God bless you,
Sincerely in Christ,
Christine Gamache
Sonia is from Australia, where she became an expert cricket player! She has been consecrated for five and a half years. In addition to her degree from Mater Ecclesiae College at the formation center in Rhode Island, she has a degree in electrical engineering and computer science. In addition to her experience working in the Diocese of Sydney before she was consecrated, she was part of a road team to Toronto during her formation. She also worked in Greenville for a year as her first full-time apostolate. | |
Br. Dustin was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. When he was ten years old he began to attend the local Conquest boys club which he was later to lead at age fifteen. Shortly before his sixteenth birthday he left home to discern God’s will at the Legion’s high school seminary, Immaculate Conception Apostolic School, in Center Harbor, New Hampshire. During his two years there he worked with one of the local parishes teaching CCD to the fifth-grade class. In 2004, after graduating from Immaculate Conception, Br. Dustin entered the Legion’s seminary in Cheshire, Connecticut and was asked to do his two years of novitiate in Canada. In 2006 he made his religious profession and returned to Cheshire for two years to obtain his associate’s degree in classical humanities. In 2008 he moved to Rome where he studied philosophy, graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Br. Dustin arrived in Chicago in August, 2010, and has been working with the local Conquest clubs and serving as formation instructor for East Lake Academy in Lake Forest. |

Dear Everest Families,
Please plan to attend next Wednesday’s Curriculum Night. (Sept 7th) This evening will give you the opportunity to visit with your child(ren)’s teacher(s). In their classrooms, each faculty member will provide a brief overview of his/her class, outlining the class expectations, overview of course studies, grading criteria, as well as major projects and highlights for the upcoming year. This will also be time for you to ask any questions.
To accommodate those families with more than one child, these faculty presentations will be repeated three times:
6:30-6:50pm
6:55-7:15pm
7:20-7:40pm
If you need more time, a final open session will be available from 7:40-8:00pm.
