Everest Academy Supports Zacchaeus House Fundraiser

for St. James Parish

Everest Academy 8th grade students Michael Spell, Libby Thomas, and Veronica Kopec take time out of their Saturday to provide entertainment for the Zacchaeus House Fundraiser, held at St. James Parish Hall on November 19, 2011. Michael Spell played the piano during the luncheon. The Everest 8th grader later returned the stipend he was given, donating the money to Zacchaeus House.

Zacchaeus House offers mercy and grace, as well as a home to men in need. In a former convent on the South Side, homeless men can sit at a kitchen table and be served breakfast with orange juice each morning. A few feet away are a laundry room and storage room equipped with new linen and new clothing for these men, who now call Zacchaeus House home.

Deacon Coleman, the Director, has been serving the poor and needy in Chicago for over twenty years. Zacchaeus House is a home for men who are hurting and need time to heal and a place to call home.

Chicago's Cardinal Francis E. George, describes Zacchaeus House as a "transitional safe house" for men who want spiritual direction. Zacchaeus House is not a treatment center, halfway house or shelter; it is a place of evangelization for men who want to stabilize their lives and find Christ.

DUCK, DIVE, DODGE FOR DONATIONS

Thursday Dec 15th from 7-9pm @ Lemont Park District CORE

7th - 8th grade students and Student Council have been asked to participate in the 2nd annual “Duck, Dive, Dodge for Donations” on Thursday Dec 15th from 7-9pm @ Lemont Park District CORE:

Last year was the first competition of ducking, diving, and dodging for donations for the Lemont Township Family Assistance Fund and our Police, Fire, Village and High School teams had a ball (literally) raising funds and collecting food for the Food Pantries.  This year it is open to every group, making it a round robin tournament.  So far there are commitments from the Lemont Police, Lemont Fire, the Village, Lemont Junior Women’s Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Lemont Park District, with more working on assembling their army.  10 persons per team are allowed, 6 are on a court at a time, and the registration fee is $30 per team.

Please plan on bringing the family to come watch these groups battle for a cause.  Entry will be a $5 suggested donation to the Lemont Township Family Assistance Fund and/or a bag of food for the Lemont Food Pantries.  See you there!

Dear Everest Parents:

We would like to invite you to please participate in an exciting and effortless fundraising program for Everest Academy. It’s called The Manna Group Scrip Program. This program will allow our school to easily fundraise while we shop.  Shopping is something which we all have to do right?  So why not let our children and Everest Academy benefit from it while we do just that.

The Manna Group Scrip Program is a form of goods exchange for substitute currency.  “Scrip” is any substitute for currency which is not legal tender and is often a form of credit, thus the name Scrip given to gift cards and certificates which are provided from local and national retailers. These are the same gift cards available in many retail and grocery stores. Nationally known retailers include Wal-Mart, Jewel, Disney, Dominick’s, Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Shell, Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants, Starbucks, The Home Depot and Marriott & Hyatt Hotels all participate in the scrip program, along with hundreds of others.

How does the Manna Group Scrip Program work?   It’s simple . . . partnered vendors agree to sell gift cards to our organization at a discount.  We will supply a list of vendors that participate in the program, you purchase the gift cards (instead of using cash or your credit card to shop), and our school keeps the difference as a profit ~ which will be used to purchase SMARTBOARDS for each classroom and for other causes. Attached is a list of vendors (or feel free to browse on www.mannagroup.net).  Each month we will collect order forms and payment for the gift cards by the 20th of the month in order to distribute the cards to you in a timely manner.

We see this as a great opportunity since…

We have to buy groceries right?                We have to fill our gas tanks right?
We may even need that daily Starbuck right?
So why not put those everyday shopping dollars back into our school?

Besides buying the cards as gift cards they can be used for more than just gifts!  Let’s get into the habit of purchasing gift cards for ourselves and to use them for our everyday shopping.

The holidays are coming up. Now would be a perfect time to rally and to use The Manna Group Scrip Program for all those extra gifts we will need to purchase.  Do you need corporate gifts for employees?  This is where you will want to shop!  Think of how much our children and our school will benefit!
We’re not asking the children to sell candy, or the parents to sell wrapping paper…………this is an easy opportunity to raise money for our great school by just doing what we simply do every day.   Parents, grandparents, friends can all help us fund our cause, and we are sure that you all will help make the Manna Fundraiser a success! Please feel free to call or email me at any time with any questions about this great opportunity for our school.  Thank you so much for your support and let’s start shopping!!!!!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Auw (parent of 3 Everest children and passionate shopperJ)
