Congratulations to our Geography Bee finalists!

Earlier this month, our middle school students participated in class competitions to determine who would compete in the School Geography Bee that was held December 10, 2013.  Thanks to the great preparation of our students, it took several rounds of competition to narrow down to two finalists.  Congratulations to Max, our School Geography Bee Champion, who will go on to compete in the next round of the National Geographic Bee.

St. Anthony of Padua

St Anthony was born in Portugal in 1195. When he was a boy he wanted desperately to be a knight for the Church. But God had an even better plan in mind. Anthony would become a great crusader for the Church, but his only weapon would be his special love for the Child Jesus!

Anthony became an Augustinian monk at the age of 15. He studied hard. His heart was  burning to tell everyone about the wonders of Jesus’ love.  After Anthony became a priest, he heard of five Franciscan friars who had been martyred for their faith while on a crusade. Anthony became a Franciscan, but did not become a martyr.  Instead, God game him the gift of great preaching, and he converted countless souls.

One night, while staying at the castle of a friend, a great light came from Anthony’s room. Was it on fire? His friend rushed up the stairs and into the room, and saw that the great light came not from a fire, but from the Child Jesus! Anthony was raising Jesus up in his arms, and Jesus was reaching down to play with Anthony’s beard.

Jesus, help me WATCH, WAIT, and WORK to bring your love into my heart and my home!
