During this month of March the students are learning about the virtue of Confidence in God. This virtue helps us to accept the mysteries of our faith and act on them, knowing that everything God says is true. When we make this act of confidence, we are able to show others how the mystery of the Trinity lives in our hearts. Some tips for living Confidence in God at home:
  • Remember that when you give your children occasion to have confidence in you, they will naturally learn to have confidence in God.
  • As a family, thank God for each other, and remind each other about how God answers our prayers.
  • At the dinner table, have everyone say one thing that God has done for them that day that showed them how much he loves them. Try to think of something that may have been hard in the moment, but that you know was good for you.
  • When your children’s prayers cannot be answered in the way they expect, explain the wisdom God exercises by choosing something better for them.
This month we are also in the season of Lent, when we remember Jesus’ 40 days in the desert and imitate his penance and sacrifice so as to prepare our hearts for Easter. Here are some ideas for living Lent as a family:
  • Come up with a Lenten sacrifice that you can do as a family.
  • Help your children to choose a Lenten sacrifice for themselves, and to stick to it all 40 days. Sometimes it also helps to do something “extra” as well as “giving up” something.
  • Try to make it to daily Mass as a family once a week.
  • Say a decade of the rosary together after dinner on Sundays.
  • Find out when your parish has Stations of the Cross during Lent, and go as a family.
