Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to our Annual Catechism Contest based on questions taken from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We ask our parents to take advantage of this opportunity to get involved in your child’s faith formation.

Pope Benedict reminds us that our Catechism is a renewed proclamation of the Gospel in our time. It is a fundamental vehicle of education in the faith, a harmonious explanation of Catholic faith and morals and a reference point in sharing our faith with others.

This year is an introduction to what will be a deeper study of the Catechism for next year. Each year students will begin this study at the beginning of the school year as part of their Catholic Formation Classes. This year since we are introducing our Annual Catechism Contest it will be carried out with a reduced number of questions. It will be held during Catholic Schools Week. The number of questions which contain information our children should already know, has been reduced in order to accommodate the timeframe from now until Catholic Schools Week (January 30- February 4th) as a time of study in preparation for the contest. There will be individual competitions in each class. The final round will be both serious as well as in good fun and spirit as it will finish off with a team effort with a mix of Kindergarten to eighth grades participating in teams.

An emphasis on holding a Catechism Contest annually as a study of the Catechism adjusted to each grade level, will give a new impetus to evangelization and catechesis, on which depends the growth of the Church and especially her inner growth and correspondence with God's plan.

We encourage you to see this competition as an incentive to help your children to be enthused with the faith, as an interesting and healthy challenge. Please prepare to the extent that seems reasonable to you as a parent with your child. Some practice will occur in Catholic Formation class, while the majority of the practice is expected to be carried out at home as part of the homework for Catholic Formation class.

May Our Blessed mother support us with her intercession in this study of the faith for our good, the good of our families, the good of the Church and the good of all humanity.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you at the competition during Catholic Schools Week.  In the next few days you will receive a copy of the schedule for Catholic Schools Week.

With our prayer for you and your families,
Sincerely in Christ,
