A Knight of the Altar at Everest Academy has the privilege of serving during Mass and other liturgical celebrations.  There are four ranks which may be attained: Herald, Page, Squire, and Knight.
  • Heralds practice the basics of altar serving, learning the names of all the liturgical articles used in the Mass as well as gaining confidence in serving during Mass. Heralds are always accompanied by high ranking members during liturgical celebrations to help and guide them.
  • Pages can be expected to know my heart how to serve Mass, and have experience and confidence in liturgical celebrations. Those who have attained the rank of Page or above have the privilege of wearing a cassock and surplice during liturgical celebrations.
  • Squires are expected to be able to serve at Benediction in addition to Mass, as well as to be able to train Pages and Heralds
  • Knights are the highest ranking members. They are experienced in serving and in training others both in word and example. Knights have a deep knowledge of the liturgy and can properly set the Missal and Lectionary for the day’s celebration.
In addition to their service to the liturgy, all members of the Knights of the Altar distinguish themselves through virtuous behavior.

On February 8, we welcomed several new Heralds from 3rd grade, as well as a few Pages. Additionally, there were several members who advanced to the rank of Squire. These new members and those advancing in rank were presented to the Everest community during the Knighting Ceremony held at the All-School Mass. Congratulations to these boys who have been studying and training very hard for this honor!
