Apostolic Activity Turns Into Fun Annual Tradition

By: Libby Thomas

The first time I went to Feed My Starving Children, I didn’t know what to expect. I thought “Oh great, my mom is dragging me to some apostolic project. Boring!” But it was Holy Week and I thought “Ok, I guess I can do this for Jesus." We had to put on weird hairnets that made us look like lunch ladies. But when they showed us pictures of the kids we would be packing food for, I was like, “Wow, I have a lot to be thankful for.”
The people who receive the food from FMSC are so poor and they don’t have access to healthy food or clean water. Some kids are even abandoned because their parents are sick and can’t support them. I realized that however boring this would be, at least it was for a good cause. They led us into the packing room and we picked jobs like, scooping and filling, measuring, and packing the boxes. They even played music and everyone would sing along. To my surprise, it was a lot of fun! We got to try some of the food we packed and it tasted delicious! At the end, they told us how many meals we packed and how many kids we fed for a year. I felt really accomplished that day, knowing I had helped a lot of people.
That was three years ago and since then I have spent three birthday parties there. My friends and family all have so much fun packing food together and I couldn’t believe it when I asked my mom how much money we had to pay to have my birthday parties there and she said it was free! I guess you can’t put a price on love! If you have never been to FMSC I definitely recommend going. You will get much more in return then what you’ve given.
