This coming Holy Week…

Spend some time together as a family attending Holy Week activities at your parish or with other Everest families on Holy Week Missions at St. Sylvester’s!

Holy Week is my most favorite week of the year! For the Catholic Church, it’s THE most important week, because during it we remember and relive the events of Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection – how Christ saved us from sin because of His awesome incredible love for us, for YOU.

For the past 9 years of my life as a Consecrated Woman, I’ve had the huge gift of living this week very intensely by being part of Holy Week Missions. I usually stay at a parish here in Chicago with a group of girls, and together we pray and we serve. After looking at how much Christ loves us, we can’t help but jump out of our comfort zones and invite people to come to church (going door to door to houses in the area), serve the elderly at local nursing homes, and reach out to those who are homeless and lonely. In the afternoon, we put on a camp to help kids learn about and live Holy Week.  We also help the parish by cleaning and preparing their church for the different ceremonies and Masses. Living Holy Week with a parish and on a mission helps me to be more convinced of what Christ did and does for me. I can’t tell you how excited I am for this Holy Week!!

This can be your experience too. Here are some simple ways to help your family live this Holy Week in Christ’s Heart:
· Attend your parish’s ceremonies and Masses
· Palm Sunday: remember the palms? This Mass helps us relive Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem, realizing that He is applauded and welcomed now but in a few days He will be led out the same way to His death.
· Holy Thursday Mass: Christ offers us His love through His service (washes our feet) and through the Eucharist which He institutes tonight.
· Good Friday: the day Christ dies for us
· Parish Stations
· Communion Service
· Easter Vigil Mass: when Christ shows us through His Resurrection that He has conquered our sin and death, a consequence of sin
· Help your children follow Christ’s footsteps in the Everest Academy Holy Week activity booklet (your children will receive these next week)
· Attend Holy Week Family Missions – Wednesday night to Sunday morning, or you can pick a day or two to attend and help others experience Christ’s love

I will be praying for each one of you in a very special way this Holy Week. Dive into Christ’s love for you! Grab onto the gift He’s holding out to you on the cross: the gift of knowing that you are loved that much, you are worth that much suffering and pain, that heaven is yours for the taking now, that you can have hope. I pray that you can be blown away by this love Christ has for you.  Please keep the missionaries and myself in your prayers this week! Enjoy your much deserved and needed Spring Break!

God bless you!
