Student Council Members Come Forward

Would you like to run for student council?  This is an exciting opportunity for students to share their leadership qualities.  Student council works to lead our school as a charitable and dynamic place to be.

During the month of May students will campaign for an office in our student council.  Students will be required to present a five minute speech describing improvements that they would like to make, qualities that they possess, and examples of that these.  In essence, why should students vote for them?  Students must decide by Monday, May 2nd, 2011, if they are choosing to run for office.  During the week of May 2nd, they will have the opportunity to get their campaigns ready (make posters, buttons, stickers, etc.)  During the weeks of May 9th and 16th students will actually carry out the campaigning (displaying their posters, flyers, etc.)  On May 23rd, during our morning assembly, candidates will present their speeches.  Immediately following, students from K-8 will vote for their candidate.  The administration will count the ballots and winners will be announced that day at dismissal.

Duties include the following:
· President (8th grade) – Initiates and oversees all projects, is in charge of all meetings and student conduct during projects and activities.  Must also provide a monthly update for bulletin.
· Vice President (7th  grade) – In charge of meetings if president is not present, oversees and assigns committees, will handle all assignments as given by the president.
· Treasurer (7th grade) – Keeps track of all funding and costs of materials and supplies.  In addition, project the budget costs of all functions or activities and keep record of all money made by student council fundraisers.
· Secretary (6th grade) – In charge of taking notes from all meetings and providing a copy to student council members or staff.

Please direct any questions to Mrs. Fleck or Ms. Maher

If you would like to run for office, please read the above with your parents. Please be sure to turn in your completed entry form in the box located outside Mrs. Fleck’s class by May 6th.
