Dear Parents,

We look forward to celebrating the gift of our Catholic Schools next week. Catholic Schools Week is a joint annual initiative between the National Catholic Educational Association and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. It is always an opportunity to remind us -- faculty, students, parents, and the community -- how blessed we are to have Catholic education with its emphasis on academic excellence, the formation of the whole person, Catholic leadership and evangelization.

This is also an opportune time for students to show their appreciation for their parents, teachers, and administrators who give constant witness to Christ and His Gospel message.

Please see the attached outline of some of Everest Academy’s planned activities. We hope you will join us for any or all of them. It is important to note, there will be a specific dress code for each day. One in particular will be to have the students dress up according to a vocation to which they aspire. This is intended to be simple; it does not have to be a full-fledged costume, just some pieces that would indicate the vocation/profession. For example, a police officer may have a badge and a hat. The idea is to help the students see we need to begin to pray to seek God’s will as to where he is calling us to share our gifts and talents in life.

Our schools celebrate Catholic Schools Week with activities such as; special treats and spiritual bouquets for the teachers and/or Consecrated and Legionary priests and brothers who work at the school; essay or speech contests with topics centered around the Catholic Schools Week theme; spirit day; all school Mass; and other special activities.

The logo designed for the week displays the words "Catholic Schools: A+ for America" beneath a stylized banner of stars and stripes in red and blue. The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2011 celebrates the fact that Catholic schools are an added value ("a plus") for the nation. Because of their traditionally high academic standards and high graduation rates, all supported by strong moral values, Catholic schools and their graduates make a positive contribution to American society. Catholic schools give a high level of service (the A+ level) to local communities because of the many service projects students undertake. "Giving back to the community" and "helping others" are values instilled in every Catholic school student. Catholic schools give a high level of service to the nation (the A+ level) by serving students from all economic backgrounds and giving them a strong academic and moral foundation, allowing them to succeed in life, serving in the government, industry, business, non-profit and educational fields.

Thank you. You are in my prayers.

In Christ,
